Data to Decisions: Putting NOAA data to work

As you have likely seen, many groups have already made the decision to suspend in-person meetings planned for the summer and fall. Having taken into account the uncertainty on NOAA travel this year, the Environmental Data Management Workshop Planning Team (EDMW), along with the EDMC chair, made the decision to suspend the in-person workshop planned for August 18-20, 2020. Considering the present circumstances, we feel it is infeasible and irresponsible to commit to the financial liability and potential risk associated with holding the EDM Workshop as originally planned.  The EDMW will be a virtual workshop August 17-21, 2020.

As we convert this meeting to a remote attendance-only workshop, the EDMW Planning Team has begun to dive into specifics of what such a meeting will look like. We are excited at the opportunity for greater participation given the remote meeting format. Over the coming weeks, look for more information on the meeting including format, times, and technologies. Abstract submission is still open until May 27th and we encourage submissions, especially those related to the meeting theme - Data to Decisions: Putting NOAA data to work.

Please cancel your travel arrangements for the meeting. If your hotel room was reserved as part of the workshop room block, it has already been canceled.

The 2020 Environmental Data Management Workshop will include plenary, presentation, poster and working sessions that focus on efforts to improve the collection, stewardship, interpretation, and delivery of NOAA data that enable the agency to effectively carry out its mission and programs. Attendees are primarily NOAA personnel, but we do have slots for non-NOAA personnel. Attendance is open to all NOAA employees, including NOAA CI and contract employees. Workshop planning activities are underway and expect to see further messages including calls for sessions, papers, and registration in the next few months.

There is no registration fee for this workshop. All NOAA employees and contractors are welcome, including data producers, data managers, metadata developers, archivists, researchers, grant issuers, policy developers, program managers, and others.
