Aaron Sweeney
CIRES and NCEI
Water Level Data Manager
Boulder, CO
Dr. Sweeney is the water level (coastal tide gauge and deep-ocean bottom pressure recorder) data manager at the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, in support of the NOAA Tsunami Program, since 2014. He has spent the past decade in oceanographic data management, developing quality-control tools and metadata generation processes to work with datasets for the UNOLS Rolling Deck to Repository and the IODP Site Survey Data Bank projects. He uses a variety of software tools and programming languages, among them Python and Javascript, to make it easier for people to discover and access data. While at NCEI, his work with timeline visualization (https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazard/dart and https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazard/tide) has led to the identification of gaps in the archive of water level data and the rescue of data to fill those gaps. He also has had the pleasure of teaching introductory physics to undergraduates for several years. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2489-6695
