The Pacific Northwest Salmon Habitat Project Tracking Database: So You Have Some Data, Now What?
Seattle, WA
Since the first ESA listing of Pacific Salmon in the 1990s, restoring habitat has been identified as a key strategy to aid salmon recovery. But, there are no standards for restoration data collection and trying to combine data from multiple sources can be time consuming. Therefore, we created The Pacific Northwest Salmon Restoration Project Database to standardize and store restoration data so it can be used for project planning, design and prioritization. Having standardized data allowed us to look at the Salmon Recovery Plans to identify Ecological (habitat) concerns, and use restoration data to see if those concerns were being addressed, thus creating the Ecological Concerns Crosswalk.
